IMPORTANT MESSAGE from Pastor Howard-JUNE 2009
Wow! It's June already. A lot has happened since our April message. I had the privilege of going to Israel and Turkey for about 2 1/2 weeks at the end of April and the first of May. It was my first trip to either country and I am so thankful for the opportunity to visit both. I really want to thank all of those who prayed and contributed for the trip. My life has been touched and I believe that I will be a better Pastor and better Christian for the experience. Bro. Earl Brown and I spent about 8 days in each country. Words cannot describe the impact of being in the places where Jesus and the Apostles walked, lived and died. I encourage everyone who can to save the money and take the time to do what we did. Your life will be changed.
I would call Turkey and Israel a study in contrasts. Both countries have so much Christian tradition that many books have been written about what has happened in both countries. Israel being God's chosen people and the promised land. The birthplace of our Lord, the place of His ministry and the place of His crucifixion and resurrection. All of those places just speak to your heart when you are there and see the general area where each happened. (NO one but the Lord knows the exact locations!) Israel is still steeped in religion, Judish, Christianity, and Islam! It breaks your heart when you see religion for religions sake and that is the sense you have by witnessing what is going on all over Israel.
Turkey is another issue. Most don't know how key Turkey was to the early church. The Seven Churches of Revelation are all in Turkey. Paul wrote letters to several other churches which were also located in Turkey. At one time Turkey was reported to be 98% Christian. It is not reported to be 99% Muslim. That boggles my mind. I consider that one of the greatest tragedies of history. There are over 70 million people in Turkey. Instead of almost that many going to Heaven, there are almost that many who most likely will go to Hell. How tragic!
Why? God only knows, but if I were to speculate, I would say it is because the church fell asleep at the switch and became complacent. Laodicea is the last church that Jesus spoke to and I believe that they hold the key. The church in America has dumbed it down and has become lukewarm. Many have eliminated Sunday night services and some have even eliminated Sunday school. The church has been mostly silent on everything from abortion, to gamblining, to porn, to drugs and many other moral issues. The church has played and sought the material things while the enemy has almost taken over.
There is a solution: a fresh pentecost! When the first pentecost came, the world was pagan just like now. The jews were mostly religious for religions sake. When the Holy Ghost was poured out, the change began and within 300 years, the known world was mostly Christian. Lets pray for that latter days outpouring that has been promised and believe God to revive the church and make the changes that are needed. We should not give up on America. We should entreat our God to reivive it and restore it. I believe that He wants to. He is looking for someone who will stand the gap. Lets do it for the glory of the Lord, for our kids sake and for our country!!!
